FLASHBACK: Rhetoric Dominates STV

Rhetoric Interview/Performance from LateNight STV on Vimeo.

This was one of the first outings I ever had as "Rhetoric." After this interview, I realized I had the potential to be a superstar. I just had to harness my energy, sharpen my focus, and write some good new material to take to the masses.

This is Go To Hell Duke Vol 1 era Rhetoric from about a year ago (hear some of those songs HERE .)Big ups to @CrazyDanceMasta for being the homie. I'm going to be back on STV in a few weeks, only this time it's going to be @EclecticDudes ( @N1ckatN1te and I as a duo).

Stay tuned.

Introducing: The Socialist (New #FamousGangFreestyle!)

Watch everyone's favorite Socialist go in! I've known the Socialist since 9th grade - in fact, the way we met was in an epic in class rap battle in which he crushed my soul. I tried to rhyme dracula with blackula and got laughed away. He's always been nice as hell, but it took me a bit of time to get my game straight. All that nonsense aside, the real important message is:

#FamousGangFreestyles Vol 1 is coming!

NEW VIDEOS COMING SOON FROM UPGRAYED, SOCIALIST, and RHETORIC.

#FamousGang is a movement. keep up.

How I Feel About "The Cosmic Drama"

The following quote is a post from the absolutepunk.net message board thread for the Cosmic Drama review:

"This album is the best rock album of the 2000-2009 period. Period. I don't care what anyone says, thinks, or argues otherwise. Brian Warren is a genius well beyond his years, musically and lyrically speaking. The mixing and mastering process for this album did delay it's release for an extended period of time. At one point, The Cosmic Drama seemed like something of a myth for Weatherbox fans whose only real communications with Weatherbox were a series of absurd myspace bulletins filled with awesome quotes, web-findings, and philosophical bulletin ramblings.

As someone who hopped in the front seat of the Weatherbox fan train the first night I saw them opening for Say Anything and Manchester Orchestra, I can say without a doubt my musical devotion has been entirely stolen by Weatherbox. Say Anything is a band I quit liking pretty much the day I graduated high school. Manchester Orchestra is amazing, but they tilt towards a different philosophical spectrum I don't necessarily identify with or understand as much as the 'box.

Every time Warren repeats a line on The Cosmic Drama, he sings it slightly differently beaming different feelings/emotions/thoughts connected with the lyric. If something is being said for 2 minutes over and over during a song of this album, the listener needs to understand that Warren would never waste his listeners time while guiding them through the experience of The Cosmic Drama. I believe this album is best appreciated in its intended format (vinyl), and plus...the blue marble print is quite beautiful.

BUY THIS ALBUM. Please. Before you spend money on anything else."

We Can't Be Everything We Wanted To Be

Mourning is For Suckers is a one man tour-de-force of kick ass punk armed with nothing but an acoustic guitar and a pocketful of cynicism. The goldsboro native songwriter, and good friend of mine, has recently began making a name for himself in Wilmington, NC. While currently a full time student at UNC-Wilmington, Mourning is for Suckers has been putting in serious work, playing shows with any punk band that matters who comes in through the area. He's played The Soapbox, Wilmington's premier venue, more times than I can count and he'll be taking part in Rad Fest this weekend (which is probably the most important punk rock event in the history of NC.) Hopefully he'll give some exclusive access to Rad Fest and make a post or two about how the festival goes.

But that's not even what this is all about - My friend Kory has recently been chosen to be on the Death to False Hope Records compilation "We Can't Be Everything We Wanted to Be." Other acts on this compilation include Bouncing Souls, The Dirty Little Heaters, American Aquarium, Look Mexico, twenty eight other great artists.

When Kory told me he had gotten on this compilation, I was very proud. We've played many a show together in our local park and it's good to know that people from Goldsboro are still making moves. There's a lot of talent in that town which is finally coming into full fruition. Mourning is For Suckers has just began to find it's real voice. It's been a phenomenal time seeing Kory go from his first material, which can be heard on his myspace here to this new material. it's all good, but the new stuff is GREAT.

On top of being on a roster with people who have arguably become part of the canon of modern day punk music, Mourning is for Sucker's has crafted one of the most epic, badass acoustic songs I've ever heard in "If I'm Wrong."

Recomended if you like: Against Me!, Look Mexico, Ghost Mice, Weatherbox, plan-it x records, no idea distribution, paul baribeau, and all that is badass.

Introducing the Squad: Part 1.01

I'm going to have a series of posts introducing people who are playing a vital role in the development of the #famousgang / Rhetoric / Eclectic sound.

The first fella I'd like to introduce is a guy named Dave Guest. Dave Guest, a current UNC-Charlotte student from Vermont, creates synthesized beats that sound like they could be on top 40 radio, yet keeps a unique edge on the competition.

If you go to his page, you can get a sneak peak at some instrumentals Dave Guest has made which will be on the Eclectic ALBUM, the Rhetoric Album, and the #FamousGang Vol. 1 featuring Upgrayed on the track.

http://www.soundclick.com/daveguestbeats

Peep the future. He plays a vital role in my squad and is down as hell for the takeover.

And that's Why I'm Going to Be Famous.

Why I'm Going to Be Famous

Who the hell is this kid?

Hi, my name is Rhetoric. I'm an MC and UNC-Chapel Hill student. I have been seriously pursuing hip hop for about a year now, and have been involved with the music industry in one format or another for the last five years.

I'm sure a handful of you out there pondered that questions as soon as you saw the domain name I purchased. Why. I'm. Going. To. Be. Famous. Let me spell it out for you: I purchased this website, created this blog, and co-founded a crew known as #famousgang all in support of my insane rapping/producing/creating addiction.

Why am I going to be famous?

Because I work harder than you.

Why am I going to be famous?

Because I believe in myself more than you do.

Why am I going to be famous?

Because I understand how the music industry works on a microcosmic scale due to years of grinding as a DIY-Songwriter/concert promoter and booker.

Why am I going to be famous?

Because I have 1,000 dollars worth of recording equipment on deck now.

Why am I going to be famous?

I'll tell you why: because I'm amazing, hungry for more, and on the prowl to take over the game. My ambition alongside my main man Nick at Nite has created our hip hop duo: Eclectic.

Eclectic is the next Little Brother/Clipse/Erik B and Rakim/Red and Meth.

We are different.

On top of all that, #famousgang is really becoming its own entity. As cofounder of #famousgang with @upgrayedhitz I am proud to have a squad of relentless intellectuals prowling the interwebs nad constantly hunting for a new way to get the word out about Rhetoric.

I'm one of the best MC's coming up in the game. I'm motivated. I'm well equipped. And I have nothing but time right now - I'm only 19.

And That's Why I'm Going to be Famous.
